Privacy Policy

Effective date: January 1, 2025

1. Overview

Medium Article Scraper (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: When you register, we collect your email address and any profile information provided through Clerk, our authentication provider.
  • Usage data: We record which URLs you scrape, scrape status, timestamps, and monthly usage counts to enforce plan limits and display your history.
  • Scraped content: Article content, metadata, and AI-transformed outputs you generate are stored in AWS S3 and linked to your account.
  • Billing information: Payment details are handled entirely by Polar, our payment processor. We store only a subscription status and plan identifier — we never see or store your full payment card details.
  • Technical data: Log data including IP addresses, browser type, and request metadata collected automatically when you access the Service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Process and fulfil scraping requests
  • Enforce usage limits and subscription entitlements
  • Send transactional communications (e.g. billing receipts)
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Improve and develop the Service

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your scraped content to train AI models.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party providers who may process your data:

  • Clerk — authentication and user identity management. Your account credentials and session data are managed by Clerk under their privacy policy.
  • Supabase (PostgreSQL) — database hosting for user records, scrape metadata, and usage data.
  • AWS S3 — object storage for scraped article content and exported files.
  • AWS Polly — text-to-speech synthesis. Article text is sent to Polly to generate MP3 audio files.
  • OpenAI — AI text transformations. Article content is sent to OpenAI's API for summarization, translation, and other transformations. OpenAI's data usage policies apply.
  • Firecrawl — web scraping engine. URLs you submit are sent to Firecrawl for content extraction.
  • Polar — subscription billing and payment processing.
  • Vercel — hosting and infrastructure. Request logs and performance data may be retained by Vercel.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and scrape history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your user record and all associated scrape data are deleted from our database. S3-stored content is deleted as part of the account deletion process. Usage and log data may be retained for up to 90 days for security and audit purposes. Billing records are retained as required by applicable financial regulations.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information and encourage you to use strong, unique passwords.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • The right to access the personal data we hold about you
  • The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to restrict or object to processing
  • The right to data portability

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at abdullahmd326@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Cookies

The Service uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your authenticated session (via Clerk) and store user preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookie settings through your browser, but disabling session cookies will prevent you from using the Service.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
